There’s much talk about how the old command, control and conform based leadership styles are outdated.
Out with the old, and in with the new.
But what is the new?
Many talk about femininity. (Which is NOT the same as feminism.)
That the old was a masculine way and now it’s time for the feminine way. But is it really?
We’ve been leaning into masculine ways for so long, in the expense of the feminine, that change for sure is inevitable.
But does it mean that we need to suppress the masculine in order for the feminine to rise?
By the way, feminine leadership is described to emphasise empathy, intuition and collaboration (I would add wholeness, too). Whereas masculine is described to emphasise assertiveness, decisiveness and accountability.
So, in this light, would it be helpful at all to suppress the other in order for the other to shine?
Lynn Twist talks about the bird of humanity, which is a prophecy about this time in history from the native people of North America. She says that:
“The bird of humanity has two wings – a masculine wing and a feminine wing. The prophecy says that for centuries, the masculine wing of the bird of humanity has been fully extended, and the feminine wing has been truncated. In order to keep the bird flying, the masculine wing has become overdeveloped, over muscular, and now violent. The bird is flying in circles as a result of this imbalance. The prophecy says that in the 21st century the feminine wing of the bird of humanity will gain its strength back, allowing the masculine wing to relax.”
For feminine to rise and take its rightful place, there’s no need to suppress or diminish masculine in any way.
As the prophecy says, feminine allows the masculine to relax and thus the bird of humanity can fly in balance, not in circles.
We talked about the same topic, but from a different angle with my friend Julie Anne Hart in the newest episode on The Insights Within Podcast.
We talk about the need for us humans to notice how there’s not only the emotional, physical or mental bodies in this reality.
There’s also the spiritual.
The spiritual connection allows the emotional, physical and mental bodies to relax.
And without having that as part of our everyday lives, we can’t operate in balance.
If that is missing, it’s the fear, the doubt, the anxiety and the ifs and shoulds that are running our lives.
But what is needed is that you use the whole of your wisdom. In its greatness.
Isn’t that what we all want in the end?
With my all,
Paula
